Setting New Standards in the Medical Device Inspection Space

High level disinfection (HLD) is considered to be one of the most common methods to disinfect endoscopes. But the use of HLD does not always eliminate the microbes present on the device and may leave behind bacterial spores. These existing spores can easily cause infection if introduced into patients’ bodies. Moreover, there is an ongoing challenge of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection outbreaks. According to research, biofilm can accumulate within the endoscopes over time, making current cleaning and disinfection procedures less effective. Even with the strongest sterilants and disinfectants, the narrow channels and interior spaces of an endoscope are hard to reach, causing a residual accumulation of debris, which can harbor germs, including CRE. Moreover, the complex and tedious process used to clean the scopes takes over half an hour and requires up to 43 steps to reduce but not completely eliminate the risk of infection.

Its astonishingly small size and high definition inspection camera enables effective inspection of surgical devices to ultimately safeguard patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. “The size and length of our inspection system allow it to align with different types of scopes and offer a 97 percent utility rate,” mentions Jerry Katzman, MD, the President and CEO at SteriView Technologies.

With a new subscription plan in place, the MIC is even more affordable, allowing customers to pay a monthly fee for all equipment and associated services rather than making a capital purchase. In addition, SteriView Technologies has introduced a number of new capabilities for the inspection system. Its Software as a Service (SaaS) allows registrations, SW updates, and cataloging of images with auto-dated and time-stamped references. “We offer the device on a subscription basis where clients can pay a flat rate each month and get updates, service, and performance. Our SaaS model makes our offering extremely flexible where if one unit stops functioning or collecting data, we can replace that unit swiftly and easily,” adds Dr. Katzman. Furthermore, the MIC provides a plug-and-play connection via USB to its SurfacePro computer and comes with interchangeable handles. Unlike most competitors that utilize easily-degradable fiber optics, producing low-quality images, SteriView Technologies’ MIC provides pristine digital images with its high-end imaging capabilities.

The new MIC with reusable, disinfectable HLD head with camera is, truly, the best-in-class device to provide confidence in protecting patients from borescope defects, particulate matter, and infection. The insertion tube can be easily cleaned in an automatic endoscope re-processor (AER) with a Sani- Cloth used on the reusable head with a camera for quick turnaround. SteriView Technologies’ products are distributed directly as well as through distribution channels, such as Dri-scope, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tricor Systems with its network of independent distributors in the U.S.

Over the years, SteriView Technologies has established itself as one of the prominent leaders in the scope inspection market.
